What I Want Out Of a College Football Postseason

My cohost AngryYinzer called me out in his last blog titled My Co-Host Is Dead Wrong About College Football! Here’s Why. So, I want to address what I want out of a college football postseason and my allegiance to Pitt.

Better Call Sauls!!!

To start, I am still and will always be a Pitt fan. I don’t think adding more teams to the college football playoff helps Pitt to win a national championship much considering we have only two seasons with 10 wins since 1981, so relax Yinzer, we are not on the doorstep on a natty. What Pitt does have going for them is they play in a power 5 conference, so if they win the ACC they will get into the college football playoff and have a “chance” to win it all. When in all reality we would probably go to Norman and lose to Oklahoma by 50 points.

Now I want to address that I don’t hate the current 12-team playoff. Every power 5 school has a chance to get in and that makes conference matchups more exciting. I personally think an 8-team playoff would drastically eliminate blowouts and wipe out the chances of a G-5 school getting in.

We all know college football will most likely never shrink the playoffs and expansion is inevitable. So, if we did go to 20 to 24 teams this is what I think would be the most fun. Say they expand to 20 teams, I think conferences should run on a coefficient basis like the UEFA champions league in European soccer, where based on success of a conference they will be awarded a certain number of bids for the college football playoff. Example: SEC gets 5 bids based off last season’s performance and the ACC gets 2. Now I’m just spit balling there but with that set up schools will naturally root for their conference to win big games.

I pray to the god of little punks that Pitt can turn up the heat and win the ACC like in 2021. The only way Pitt gets in with adding more teams if a coefficient system is in place, without it the playoffs will just see more Big Ten and SEC schools in the playoffs.
